Orientation Trip September 2014

Orientation Trip to Chisasibi, Wemindji and Eastmain, September 16-18, 2014

A delegation of fifteen people from Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Matagami, from the fields of construction, mining, equipment dealership, transportation, tourism, economic development, public relations and environment, took part on September 16, 17 and 18 in an orientation trip to the Cree communities of Chisasibi, Wemindji and Eastmain.

This orientation trip is a friendly way to meet and help build and expand a network of contacts with key people of the Cree Nation. Several people in the delegation discovered the communities for the first time while others took this opportunity to renew ties and finalize business deals. Knowing full well that the Cree communities and Nord-du-Québec have a huge potential with good business opporunities for our region, these familiarization trips have their purpose.

We wish to extend a special thanks to Mr. René Dubé, Mayor of Matagami, Mr. Réal Dubé, council member, and Mr. Daniel Cliche and Mr. Raphael Masse from the Economic Development department for their presentations, cooperation and support. Delegates were able to appreciate many economic assets of this beautiful city. We also wish to extend our thanks to the communities of Chisasibi, Wemindji and Eastmain for their warm welcoming.
