Drs. Ted Moses receives David Gourd Award
In recognition of his contribution to the economic development of the community
Amos, May 13, 2023 – The Secretariat to the Cree Nation Abitibi-Témiscamingue Economic Alliances (SCNATEA) would like to congratulate its president, Drs. Ted Moses, who received the David-Gourd award during the Gala Élite of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Centre-Abitibi (CCICA) held this Saturday, May 13 in Amos. This award is given to a person who has collaborated in the economic development of the community.
It is with emotion and gratitude that the President of the Secretariat, Drs. Ted Moses, received this honour. "I am touched and very honoured to receive the award that bears the name of Mr. David Gourd, a pioneer and builder. This award is a recognition of how far the Cree Nation has come in integrating into the economic life of the entire region. But more importantly, this award is a recognition of how far we have come together to create an environment in which economic development can be successful, sustainable and in the best interests of all peoples.
Since its creation more than twenty years ago, SCNATEA's mission is to create partnerships and alliances between the Cree Nation and the non-aboriginal populations of Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The mutual respect of cultural, linguistic and territorial differences are part of its values as well as the promotion of business relationships based on the understanding of local expectations, cooperation, respect and trust.
"What we have all learned since the signing of the historic Peace of the Braves and since the creation of the Secretariat is that inclusion is a much wiser approach than exclusion. We have learned that exclusion leads to conflict, division, and creates serious obstacles to achieving ambitious economic development goals. Inclusion, on the other hand, leads to partnerships, dynamic business development and progress."
