Commitment from The Secretariat to the Grand Cercle
Val-d’Or, November 26, 2021 - As part of the Grand Economic Circle of Indigenous People and Quebec, the Secretariat to the Cree Nation Abitibi-Témiscamingue Economic Alliance committed itself to giving impetus to the socio-economic development of the First Nations by signing the Declaration Grand Circle of Commitment.
Together with more than a hundred political and economic leaders, the Secretariat's team and president gathered in the Sheraton Center, in Montreal, on November 25 and 26, 2021, to discuss the Indigenous Nation's wealth creation issues. This historic event, held in a spirit of reconciliation, is not an end but rather the beginning of a movement that engaged leaders want to see spread throughout all regions of Quebec and across all sectors.
The Secretariat has worked for 18 years towards creating harmonious and dynamic partnerships among Nations. His president, Drs. Ted Moses, welcomed this initiative as significant progress at the provincial level: « We often witness how economic alliances can be profitable for all parties. We have many examples of valuable partnerships between Quebec and Cree businesses, so increasing the number of collaborations of this kind is a great initiative. Recognizing the contribution of Indigenous People to Quebec's economy is crucial to our development and our individual and collective fulfilment. Thus, we are pleased to participate in this movement by collaborating to organize a regional business Rendez-Vous in 2022, in Val-d'Or. »
The Declaration Grand Circle involves more than ten commitments, including recognizing Indigenous cultures and territories, stimulating investment in Indigenous communities and businesses, combating all forms of racism or discrimination. The complete text of the Declaration is available at the event website: grandcercle.ca.
