The “Forging the Path Forward” event, organized by the Cree Nation Government (GNC) in collaboration with the Secretariat to the Cree Nation Abitibi-Témiscamingue Economic Alliance (SCNATEA), was a notable success, bringing together more than 300 participants, including indigenous, municipal and regional elected officials, and key players in the economic sector. Held on November 14 and 15 at the Hôtel Forestel in Val-d'Or, this event laid the foundations of a solid economic development strategy for the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory, in accordance with the values and culture of the Cree Nation. The discussions revolved around crucial pillars such as quality of life, culture, identity, environmental protection, and themes linked to economic development such as education, training, business sustainability and participation of young people as future leaders. The Grand Chief of the Cree Nation, Mandy Gull-Masty, highlights the importance of integrating Cree culture at the heart of economic development, welcoming partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
