Published on March 31, 2025

It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge the departure of Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty, who is entering a new chapter in her career by seeking the Liberal Party nomination in the federal riding of Abitibi–Baie-James–Nunavik–Eeyou. We wish her the very best of luck in this important political journey, guided by her vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Eeyou Istchee.
Over the past four years as the head of the Cree Nation Government, Grand Chief Gull-Masty demonstrated inclusive, courageous, and determined leadership. She carried the voice of the Cree Nation with clarity and conviction, building bridges between peoples, institutions, and generations. Her work leaves a lasting impact, and we say mista mikwetc for her dedication and exemplary service.
We also extend our congratulations to Deputy Grand Chief Norman A. Wapachee, who will assume the role of Grand Chief until the next elections scheduled for July 2025. His experience and deep understanding of the Cree Nation’s priorities will be key to ensuring a smooth and respectful transition.
To outgoing Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty, to incoming Grand Chief Norman A. Wapachee, to their respective families, and to the entire Cree Nation, we extend our best wishes for success and serenity in this new chapter.
