Better Understanding Mentorship to Better Support Eeyou Entrepreneurs

Monday, November 25 | 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Bistro, Forestel, Val-d'Or
Mentorship is not just about giving advice. It’s about building a relationship of trust between two human beings, one who has walked the path of entrepreneurship, and one who is still finding their way.
At the heart of the Niimuudaan program is this idea: to walk alongside, to listen without judgment, and to ask meaningful questions that help entrepreneurs grow, not just in business, but as individuals.
During this mentorship morning, you’ll have the chance to:
  • Learn how the Niimuudaan program works
  • Hear real testimonies from Cree mentors and mentees
  • Experience mentorship in action through a guided scenario activity that helps clarify the difference between a mentor, a coach, and a consultant
Why is this distinction important? Because each role serves a different purpose.
A coach helps you reach a specific goal, often over a short period.
A consultant gives expert advice and solutions to business problems.
A mentor, on the other hand, doesn’t tell you what to do, they help you find your own path, through reflection, encouragement, and presence.
Economic Development Officers (EDOs) play a key role in identifying potential mentors and mentees in their communities.
They are often the first point of contact for entrepreneurs, and their ability to clearly distinguish between these types of support ensures each entrepreneur gets what they need, when they need it.
Attending this session will help EDOs and partners feel confident in referring the right people to mentorship, and in presenting Niimuudaan as a culturally grounded tool for growth.
If you’ve ever wondered what mentorship looks like, or how to become part of the movement — this is your moment.
