Recap of the Mentorship Training and Information Day: The Niimuudaan Program Takes Flight

On November 12, an enriching day of mentorship training and information was held as part of the Niimuudaan program, an initiative specifically designed for the Cree Nation. Led by Réseau Mentorat, the session brought together several economic development officers from Cree communities. They had the opportunity to participate in a training session within a safe and welcoming space, fostering discussions about the realities of their communities and their unique needs.
Shedding Light on Mentorship
The training emphasized the fundamental values of mentorship, with a clear distinction between the roles of mentors, consultants, and coaches. Unlike paid consulting or coaching services, mentorship is based on voluntary, unpaid work rooted in the sharing of experience and human support. This unique approach was enthusiastically received by participants, who recognized it as a valuable opportunity to guide entrepreneurs on their journeys.
Strengthened Support Through Solid Partnerships
In addition to collaborating with the economic development officers present to identify and recruit future mentees, the Niimuudaan program is proud to count on the support of the Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee Association. The Association will play a key role as a relay organization and actively participate in the matching process. Furthermore, we are delighted to announce that Charlotte Ottereyes, president of the Association, has accepted the role of lead female mentor for this project. Her leadership and commitment will significantly enhance this initiative.
Mentors Ready to Make a Difference
Following this day, the Niimuudaan program now has five mentors ready to begin their mentorship journey. These mentors, experienced individuals who have been active in Cree business and economic development for many years, bring invaluable expertise while embracing this new role with enthusiasm. The SCNATEA and Réseau Mentorat are committed to continuing to support them and providing the necessary tools to help them guide entrepreneurs in ways that are well-suited to the cultural and business realities of their communities.
A Call to Entrepreneurs
